I would think this is possible, however it would be more difficult to regulate the temperature. So there would be more chance for you to burn the starch. So you would have to mix it all the time.

Personally I would do it in the oven and then at least all you don't have to stand watching it for an hour.

I tried it, it works, it's fast, makes good dextrin, try it. You might need a bit of practice to get it reight though, it burns pretty fast if you're not carefull.

As usual Ozzy, thank you for your completely useless post that has nothing to do with the topic.

Just buy some at your local store.I found it in the cooking isle

HalfLife: This thread has been dead for months. I don't know how easily people are banned on this forum. Somehow Ozzy seams to squeek through his pointless rants, but I know this could be considered necromancy and post whoring.

Also, your post was not entirely helpful to his question. Not everyone, everywhere is able to purchase dextrin off the shelf, and that is why we make it from corn starch.

deadman I don't think he was saying to buy Dextrin from the store but rather to buy the Cornstarch from the store.

IMO there's nothing wrong with dragging up old threads that have been dead a while as long as the conversation pertains to the topic. Heck if we started a new thread everytime someone had an aerial shell question we'd have hundreds of threads instead of just one.

Yeah, where is Ozzy anyway? Did he finally get banned or is he just laying low and being good for a while? Come on out and play Oz, not all of us will get upset with you ^_^

Alright, well trying to continue the thread (why not) has anyone tried microwaving starch? Maybe small amounts at a time for short burst of microwaving. I don't know the exact science behind making dextrin, but I think it's worth a dollar to try it out. Follow ups are to follow within a few days.

I have a feeling, best case scenario you'd get warm dry starch from that. The mechanism that breaks starch into dextrin is heat driven. The complex starch molecules are broken down into simpler carbohydrates that just happen to be glues. A similar process happens when boiling flour to make flour paste for pasting shells or what not.

It is however worth a shot. One rather quantitative way to test is by taste. This is a special case, and chemicals should normally not be tasted. Dextrin will feel rather slippery on the tounge and sweet. I would suggest the iodine test, but you're probably not going to be able to convert all, or even most, of the starch to dextrin to make that applicable.
