h0lx Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Ideally people would discuss the different fuels, that ignite on contact with potassium permanganate. The ignition method is nice, when testing larger amounts of powerful compostions(Like I ignited 3g of flash yesterday). I did some experiments on this:a scoop of KMnO4 was put on 2 pieces of Al foil. to each, 3ml of either MEG or glycerine was added. Glycerine took 63 seconds to ignite. MEG took only 25 seconds and burned much more fierce, I think it it because it is much more volatile, it reacts faster. Now to your experiences and ideas. I would like to hear different fuels, that have worked.
Swany Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 My friend has used ethylene glycol apparently with success, rather it was an antifreeze, so it also contained other stuff, like propylene glycol. Something you may want to try.
