usapyro Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Lets have a contest to see who has the bragging rights to the fastest black powder on APC Forum!!! So that we can all compare powders reliably here are the rules... 1. Charcoals that may be used... Willow, Alder, Maple, Bamboo, and Pine. Exceptions may be made for others. No expensive/rare charcoals like balsa or cork that are not cost effective in pyro.2. Burn length... About 21.5 inches. Cut a 11x8.5" sheet of paper in half lengthwise and overlap it like in my video below. Form a trough around 60-70 degrees.3. Black powder amount is 4g exactly. Let me kick this thread off with my entry... Original footage ignition timestamp: 0:00:13:13Original footage flame dieoff timestamp: 0:00:13:57Burn duration: 440 milliseconds! 44/100th of a second! Follow my format just above and your entry shall be good!
bob Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I was going to have a contest like this this spring and people said to have it this fall so I hope you get some people enteringwhat mesh size did you use?bob
usapyro Posted October 22, 2012 Author Posted October 22, 2012 (edited) I used 15 mesh to granulate the powder. I don't have any real prizes, just "bragging rights." If you want to be a co-host of the contest and offer some real prizes be my guest! Note: People are not required to disclose their techniques until the end of the contest. I was going to have a contest like this this spring and people said to have it this fall so I hope you get some people enteringwhat mesh size did you use?bob I have included a guide on how to mark the die-off frame... It is the point where the BP has burned to the end of the paper and the flame is dying down. If there is arguments about exact time... We can just cross compare ending frames. Convert end number into milliseconds. My video format shows 0/100 (100th of a second) for the last number. Kinda funny... If you compare the paper position to the flame it appears it burned so fast it pushed some burning BP way past the paper.
