TheArchitect23 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 (edited) Looking Back At Dags Media ( Lead Swagged Copper )I Always Thought, Wouldnt These Tumble Instead Of Roll? Then I Thought, Wait. What If The Tubes Were Solid? They Would Only Roll Thus Grinding Over A Larger Surface Area More Efficiently?Faster Milling? Finer Milling? Example: ( See Attached ) What Would The Pros And Cons Here Be? Other Than Less Pipe To Cut And Sand, And Less Swagging. Edited October 21, 2012 by TheArchitect23
Anarchy08 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 would come down to surface area wouldn't it? the rods have less area vs the short media taking longer. can sort of see that the long rods are going to twist in the mill and catch and lift on the sides becoming less efficient
dan999ification Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 (edited) i invented this a few years ago, its called a roller mill or rod mill, they do exist for grinding aggregate down but after long discussions on surface area contact and cylinder vs balls the opinion is that it is not the most efficient for making bp.I of course managed to make good bp with it, though its better now with lead balls for the same milling time.I used lead cylinders 4 inches long, it does work but you will need longer mill runs. The only reason i ended up with this design is that i didnt know about swaging media, but did cast the rods in copper pipe and removed them ( why ) the grinding is only efficient if the mill feed is the same size, mine made bp from fine chems but would take forever to grind willow charcoal, the problem is that the rods lift at one end if a chunk is under it making that rod useless as the contact area is reduced, i had no problem with the media twisting ( same length as jar )youtube rod mill theyre big for a reason. dagabu Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Lol! No, you didn't invent the roller design for ball mills, they have been in use longer then we have been alive. As you stated though, they are not efficient for fine grinding. -dag 2
TheArchitect23 Posted October 21, 2012 Author Posted October 21, 2012 lol, well that makes sense.I guess im off to cut 100 or so copper nuggets.....xD
dagabu Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Just remember that copper imparts color on comps so you had better want the green hue you may get. -dag
dan999ification Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 lol.By i invented it i mean i made it without knowing of its existance, i found after presenting it here and ukps that they already exist, it was mumbles who actually informed me.I did state that they exist. If one was to research its easy to see how old most of them are.I would never lie but can easily confuse issues in text.Im sure most of us have re invented the wheel at times. dagabu Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 lol. Im sure most of us have re invented the wheel at times. Dan. I get it now! LOL! I invented a lot of things too then. -dag
rbarbourbis Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 I'm a newbie on this forum. I haven't "invented" anything in they pyro arena yet. But, I've certainly "re-invented" a lot things in my other hobbies / occupations. I consider it a validation when I find out someone else already had my idea and it works. It's free R & D when I find out it doesn't work Randall 1
AirCowPeacock Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 I always feel very dissappointed when I reinvent something great. I'm like: "Fuck, I could have been famous for my invention 100 years ago." On the other hand.. it does prove I have the capability to invent something first.
