usapyro Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Curious what peoples observations have been. I just weighed my original media in my original 3lb mill last week. It came out to 955g. Two pounds is 907.185g... Looks like AmericanPryoSupply was giving me extra lead a few years ago? Not possible my media could have increased in weight... Looks like wear on good antimony media isn't too much to worry about! Anyone precisely measure their lead and check for weight loss after a year?
TheArchitect23 Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 well, i have the oldest batch from when i first stared, i used recycled wheel weights and scrap pure lead. that has a bit of antimony in it.hard stuff, i cast mine in a cannon ball sinker mold ( do-it ) at the time, the weight of each ball is still recessed in the lead ever so lightly.i attempted to measure the depth of the dimple of a new ball and it seems to be about 0.002''i think its safe to say after about 2 years of milling once or twice a month my medias still going strong. you're results may very based on the size of your mill and frequency of usage. i have 4 "6 lb " mills running 2 barrels. 48 lbs total lead media + or - , about 6 lbs each barrel.
