usapyro Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 (edited) Why is iron oxide included in whistle mix? Does it increase burn rate or does it change the sound of the whistle? The stuff burns so fast that I wouldn't think it would need a catalyst to increase burn rate... Salicylate MixPotassium Perchlorate 75Sodium Salicylate 25Red Iron Oxide + 1Petroleum Jelly + 4 (I use the mineral oil method.) Edited October 14, 2012 by usapyro
psyco_1322 Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Both actually, different catalyst will cause they whistle tone to change pitches.
usapyro Posted October 14, 2012 Author Posted October 14, 2012 (edited) What other catalysts change the tone of the whistle? Different oxides, different amounts of oxide, or totally different types of catalysts? Here is an interesting thought... Does iron oxide increase the burn rate of black powder in a rocket fuel grain?
