Mumbles Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Not really a secret. You may want to work on your searching skills. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&site=&source=hp&q=crackling+stars+fireworks&oq=crackling+stars+fireworks

chemtech89 Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Skylighter.com has a good write up on making them. Found in "project plans" of the right side of the screen. In there, look for the "Bismuth Subcarbonate Dragon Eggs Crackling Stars" link under subject "Stars, Comets and Compositions" . Apparently a few different chemicals are able to give you that effect however all are expensive and some are toxic.
usapyro Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 (edited) Er... There are many formulas... Here is mine... http://www.amateurpy...nc-dragon-eggs/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgU5SwFhnUU You might be talking about actual "crackling" stars though... To make stars crackle as far as I know there are only two techniques... Using medium/large MgAl in your stars, and possibly using Titanium with AP(Not sure about that one)... taiwanluthiers Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 The cheapest chemical would be lead tetraoxide, really cheap in Taiwan but toxic. Here bismuth trioxide/subcarbonate is only available from lab suppliers at very high prices, like over $50 dollars per 100g. That's a far cry from lead tetraoxide which is available from paint suppliers at less than 3 dollars per Kg.
eb11 Posted October 20, 2012 Author Posted October 20, 2012 when i did the google search i found this formula from someone in this forum. has anyone tried this formula i dont want to use lead and it would be nice not to have to use nc Red Gum Crackling StarsBismuth Trioxide 37.5gCuO 37.5gMGAL 25gKCL04 +7g (Decided upon KClO4 because it's got less incompatibilities/sensitivity than nitrate or chlorate.)Red Gum +6g - Binder (Alcohol) Silicon PrimeBlack Powder Meal 100gDextrin or SGRS +6g - Binder (Water)Silicon +8g
