Dean411 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Maybe after reading this the moderators will pin it so some of the new people on APC will see it. I have seen a large number of posts pertaining to PVC and CPVC, where people were gonna go to home depot and buy some for there pyro shows. All Poly Ethelene pipe carries an ASTM number which starts something likePExxxx well the differance between low density, medium density, and high density poly Etheleneis all in that number actually the first number after the letters PE the first number after the PE is the density 1 is considered LDPE 2 is MDPE and 3 or higher is HDPE. the rest of the numbers are flowability of the resin color etc. So what does this mean to you? Home Depot carries HDPE 1/2 3/4 1" and most carry 11/4 in either 100 ft coils or precut 2 foot lengths it is underground sprinkler line. Don't buy the stuff made by TORO with the blue stripe as that is LDPE but the rest is Black HDPE and works great for reloadable cakes and mortars. A quick search of the net will verify what I'm saying most home depot stores carry it and it has eitherPE3608 or PE3408 which are both HDPE pipe. Please comment or like! Dean
TheArchitect23 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Interesting Thought. I Will Have To Stop By And Take A Look Tommarow.
superspike23 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 (edited) Near my home in a DIY store, I can find: www.bricodepot.fr/toulon/node/479260 I'll look Monday. If it is rigid, it can make good small tube of 1 inch http://www.bricodepot.fr/files/img/200x198/105528.jpg Edited October 13, 2012 by superspike23
superspike23 Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) I bought today the polyethylene pipe.I chose 32 mm id.I paid 23 euros for 10 meter. I cut a piece of 25 cm it is very rigid. Now I will try to recover. Some pictures: Edited October 15, 2012 by superspike23
superspike23 Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I straightened easily tubes.I've heated with the flame of my gas cooker.the tube then became softer.it is possible to straighten hand.It is not perfect to the nearest micron, but the use seems ok.When I have found how to close them down, I will make a test.

You can place rammers (wood or metal) down the tubes and place them in the oven at 200° F for 20 minutes then let fully cool and get razor straight tubes as well. It work equally well with PVC. In fact, if you fill a good slow cooker 3/4 the way up with coarse salt and set it to high, once hot, you can push your tubes into the salt and get the tube to soften in mere seconds, you can then squish the bottom of tthe tube flat and make plugs instantly. A small wood plug makes a nice seal. -dag Edited October 16, 2012 by dagabu
Arthur Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I have some PE pipe for mortars. To plug them I pushed nails into predrilled holes then added some polyester resin filled with dry sand. Works well so far and proven to 6"

Dean411 Posted October 18, 2012 Author Posted October 18, 2012 Super spike It seems your using the pipe with the blue stripe which I stated in the original posting is not Hdpe tube and it looks like the temp was way to high were you using 200°c you should have used 200°F. Dean
dagabu Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Spike, make sure to have an oven thermometer to test the heat, you can get spikes when heating it up from an electric oven so use a cookie sheet too. You want to be 200° F or a little under and don't let it sit too long, PVC can take about 20 minutes but you may have to keep the HDPE pipe in for only 1/4 that time if it starts to shrink back like that. -dag
superspike23 Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I heated to 200 ° Celsius ..........................
superspike23 Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 my tube resists a pressure of 12.6 bar for id 32.16 bar 25 mm id. This is the hdpe but I heated too high
dagabu Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Spike, feel free to use cool water on them after taking them out of the oven, it will not hurt the rebonding at all. dag
superspike23 Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 after being translated, I have warmed to 93 ° Celsius. This corresponds to Th 3 of the oven.I'll try again with the cat litter in the tube, not to flatten it.
superspike23 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 for tubes of this diameter, it is best to make a classic shell?or ignite the lift from the bottom of the tube by drilling a hole? The tubes have a diameter of 32 mm
