eb11 Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 just a quick question if this would be ok to ball mill to get a good mix still new at ball milling thanks guys Hot Igniter Star Prime Chemical Percent Factor 3 oz 85 g Potassium perchlorate 71% 0.71 2.15 oz 60.3 g Charcoal, airfloat 14% 0.14 0.4 oz 11.9 g Red gum 9% 0.09 0.25 oz 7.7 g Magnalium 6% 0.06 0.2 oz 5.1 g
Mortartube Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Not recommended. Never ball mill any mixtures with metals in and I personally wouldn't mill chlorate or perchlorate mixes.
sparky Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 (edited) NO DONT DO IT,only black powder ingredients are ok to mill anything else is too dangerous. The perc and charcoal could prob be milled if you made it into a slurry first but i wouldnt Edited October 8, 2012 by sparky
Col Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I just screen it altogether and use denatured alcohol (aka meths) to activate the red gum. Same with the bp prime if its the 2 step.
dan999ification Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 (edited) i screen evrything but the metal, diaper that in after then use acetone bind. Dan.Edit: i have found that the chems and charcoal dont have to be that fine, i never milled any , even with larger pieces of charcoal present it will work just wont apply as easy. pyrowinner Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) Ball mill Black Powder & mix +15% silicon (200 mesh) for hot primes in combination, They produce quite high temperatures, the melting point of Si is more than 1400 deg C. good luck Edited October 29, 2012 by pyrowinner
Potassiumchlorate Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 You don't have to mill prime. It's actually better a bit "coarse", since the stars won't ignite if it burns off too fast. By the way, I have the same experience with H3; you don't have to use finer charcoal than 120 mesh or so - the small dissolvable amount of potassium chlorate is absorbed into the charcoal and the carrier when wetted, making a very good H3.
pyrowinner Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) No matter if BP is Ball mill & add +15% silicon because first melt the silicon (metal) due to its heat conductivity is higher than BP composing materials, so automatically slow down its burn rate & create a proper heat for melting Silicon.(Metal’s heat conductivity is higher than the other elements, same theory we used in dragon eggs,Mg/Al melt first.)
