eb11 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 here is a newbie question what is the length of a 3 inch shell
Mumbles Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I'm assuming you're talking about cylindrical here. They can be any length you want them to be really. The standard is to make them approximately as tall as they are wide. A 3" cylindrical shell is made on a 2.5" OD former. I personally use a liner inside the canister. I make this liner 2.5" tall. Once the shell is filled, closed, spiked, and pasted, it usually will come in closer to 2.75" long, plus however much fuse you have sticking out.
dan999ification Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) for stars i keep them short as above with a liner, for inserts they are an inch or so longer but ive seen cans with farafelle stacked up two high not sure on the exact dimensions but they are more like salami's. Dan.Longer star shells need to be solid enough not to crush on lift. Edited September 12, 2012 by dan999ification
