Jtandsun Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I am new to all of this, but eager to learn. Are there any good sources for learning to make tooling for rockets?
dan999ification Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 do you mean making or design, depends what tools and skills you have, rocket tool sketcher will give some basic dimensions but you cant go wrong here, the rocket section has a few threads with tooling discussed in full. Dan.
dagabu Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Not really, the tooling we make is really done by scratch and not from a book of sorts. Basic engineering and machinists skills are essential in good design and manufacturing. You really have to take the pictures and dimensions of existing tooling and tweak them for your own use. As far as the basic drawings, Rocket Tool Sketcher is your best bey to get going. -dag
dan999ification Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 true true, i followed no plans with mine and used what i had so i got ten mm rockets ( and 18 mm ) funny thing is the spindles on the core burning tools are the same size just the base is different once you get some dimensions you can tune the fuel to the tools, what size rockets do you want to make? You could make a working motor with a rammer and a drill bit which you then base the tools around, i made mine with a cordless drill and file far from ideal but they make rockets that fly ( after many hours cursing ) dan.
