composition of a Bengal light parachute flare

hello all

I have a question about a concern that opposes me dry2.gif

so I want to do a parachute flare but I do not know what to composition in the Bengal light ...

I think

KNO3 59% sulfur 30% and 11% meal powder

or

75% and 25% KNO3 magnalium

What do you think? you have a better solution?

The second will be much brighter than the first. To get a brighter flame still (if you desire it) you can add a lot more MgAl, since the excess burns in the air.

Some organic fuel is usually added to regulate the burn, hold the mix together, and generally make it less like flash.

You might like something like...

KNO3 45

MgAl 45

Red Gum 5

Dextrin 5

I chose Red Gum and Dextrin because they are bog standard. Dextrin is the usual binder as well as being a fuel. I wanted more fuel, and Red Gum is the usual choice for this purpose.

Ideally I would use Gum Arabic instead of Dextrin, Resinox instead of Red Gum, and Barium nitrate instead of Potassium nitrate (Barium without halogen emits more while light than Potassium), but you have to work with what ya got. If you don't have Red Gum or Resinox, something else will work.

45 Barium nitrate / mgal 45/5 red gum / 5 dextrin
