dagabu Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 How would I process scrap such as aluminum, iron, steel, ect.. into powders or small sizes for comps? Honestly, I buy aluminum in the right mesh and use brake turnings for the iron by running them through screens. I make and crush my own Mg/Al, but that is mostly by hand and finish up in a ballmill. I don't powder any metals but Mg/Al and even that gives me the willies. I do use Ti turnings and Al shavings, but just the smallest ones, the larger ones go to the recycling bin. -dag
roketman21 Posted July 24, 2012 Author Posted July 24, 2012 How do you crush Mg/Al? I will probably just buy what I need anyway I was just curious.

I would tap it gently to break it down to a workable size, then ball-mill it to the desired fineness. In my opinion, the best way to store magnalium is as ingots. If you then only mill what you will need in the near future, your material will always be "fresh" and with no sign of degradation. For what it's worth... WSM
