The wife likes to watch my pyrotechnics from time to time. She sometimes helps with theory as to what happened there and why that rocket CATO'ed. But are there any girls on this forum? Do you know of any who actually make fireworks? Or is it just a blokes domain like - cooking on the barbeque (as there is some element of danger there women do better at food preparation.)

Iv had girls really interested, but never met any that actaully make things. They often want to light fuses though :)

I have a cousin that is pretty inerested in pyro, but I don't think she will ever do it on her own time. I taught her how to build a (pretty bad) easy fountain out of my chemicals this last Fourth of July. And of course she loves to light the fuse on anything I make. But so far I haven't ever met a girl that actually likes making fireworks and spending ridiculous amounts of money on chemicals :D

Nah, most say that I make firecrackers or bombs. My older sister came with me to walmart when I got my coffee grinder and called me "a true bomber".

On the 4th of July, I was hand firing off $900 of commercial stuff with my uncle, aunts and cousins, all of the women sat in lawn chairs eating BBQed food while all of the men where across the street in the school's feild shoot of the commercial stuff. Some 12 year olds came with legal shit, jumping jacks and some smoke balls, yay!

Edit: What about lady kate's site? She's from rec.pyro. Here's her site:http://www.wichitabuggywhip.com/fireworks/

It's run by 2 men and a woman, close enough.

The amount of women in pyro is rather low. Most of the ones I know are like wives or girlfriends of male pyros. The only stand alone one that sticks out to me is Marcy Zurn. She used to run pyroplastics.com. She also made some very nice shells. If you ever go to a PGI, you will see lots of females. A guy at the PGI did a class on mini-girandolas out of ice cream buckets. I saw a lot of girls in the class, which was promising.

In ladykate's case she is a daughter. The second guy is her boyfriend/fiance.

Like a lot of people have said, I find lots of people are interested, but not interested enough to start. All the people I know who I got into it were male. Hell, I've had no less than 7 girls be scared of my basement. Two wouldn't even go into the basement any more. Needless to say things didn't work out too well with them. Then there was the whole me being too busy making fireworks to go out to dinner, but thats another story.

I know a girl who is into pyro. Her boyfriend was the impetus and helps sustain the habit, but she spends a ton of time making her own stuff and works on many of the shows we shoot. I would consider her a pyro chick. Hell she makes her own charcoal, last week she made her own copper benzoate or some such ridiculousely time consuming thing. It was copper something. She humps racks, drops shells, squibs and everything else with the rest of us, she's legit in my book.

My ex was kinda into it. That was because of me though. Taught her to make some rockets. She got up early the next morning, woke me after a few hours and wanted me to inspect the rockets she had made:)

Cool chick really, she was registered at the old forum, called Chrizzy.

I've seen a lot of girls/women in pyro. Don't think I've ever met one that actually made a device all by herself. Most girls/women like fireworks/lighting fireworks, but could generally care less about their construction or technical aspects there of. I'm not saying no girls/women make pyro devices, but I've never seen one.

I've met a few that have made their own devices, but like I said most are the wives/girlfriends of other pyros. I'm not counting the females who make shells at the PGI during the classes for this. I've never met one that became inspired and then made said device on their own. I suppose I talked to Chrizzy once, but thats as close as I've gotten.

I did make Urea nitrate, and methyl salicyliate with one girl though. About as close as I've ever gotten.
