cocktail76 Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 I need to make Black Powder for lift charges and rocket nozzles I’m thinking Hydraulic Press would help me. I want to use this method for Black Powder, http://www.pyrotechniques.org/dwilliams/bl...lackpowder.htmlI live in a too densely populated area for a ball mill. Has any one used this method or one similar? Which Hydraulic Press would be best http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...temnumber=44811 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...Itemnumber=1666 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...Itemnumber=4711 Thanks for any input,DG

If you want to make lift powder, as opposed to rocket propellant only, you pretty much need to mill in order to reach the peak potential of your powder. As far as the hydralic presses: That 1st one looks interesting, I would avoid the 2nd and the last one, as the max working height isn't enough.
ewest Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Some of us on the forum have the Harbor Freight 12 ton press. It's a bit taller than those you found and can be bought for around $100. You can make just about any sized rocket on one of those. And don't forget, after getting a press, you'll need a blast shield.
jacob Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 i like the first one best, it looks likes the easyst one to put a blast shield on, and you can be away from it when your pressing, just make sher[bad spelling i know] its tall enough.
cplmac Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Have you checked maxtools.com? I found my press there, they have a really good selection and ship pretty quickly.
imgnarly Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 corning black powder is for pre milled suff and you arent going to make quality black powder without a ballmill
