Crossette breaking charge (not flash powder) - can other powders work well?

Hi,

 

I dont like to use flash powder compositions.

I want to make some crossette stars or comets, and i like to know if there's other breaking compositions (BP, H3, KP...or slow flash) that can be used instead flash powder.

What size of crossettes are you trying to break? The larger the crossette, the milder you can make the breaking charge.

40 to 50mm crossette comets

At that size you have quite a bit of size to work with. Granulated Whistle is the second most common hobby crossette burst, though no doubt many different explosive mixes will work.

 

The crossettes I've made that size I burst with flash boosted black powder, or black powder diluted flash... filled the gaps between the grains with 70/30.
