50AE Posted December 13, 2014 Author Posted December 13, 2014 We made a deal with the prosecutor and I've agreed to a suspended sentence of 9 months with 3 years of probation period. Judging from the charges and the circumstances, this was a fair deal. Of course I also have to pay the case expenses of 500 USD equivalent and 450 for lawyer expenses. Right now I have to be very careful during these 3 years. Everything else is fine 1
a_bab Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 You are more of a lucky bastard then you'd think, even for Bulgarian laws.Should this happened in USA, you would have been broke as a hobo and possibly already rotten in prison. 3 years of probation=what? You won't give away any more BP or chems to retarded people? No more home made stuff?Did you lose the shooter licence in the process? A second time means you'd serve the 9 months + whatever else you manage to get.Enjoy your Technics stuff and stay away from trouble.
50AE Posted December 13, 2014 Author Posted December 13, 2014 For Bulgarian laws, the usual penalty for this crime is 2 to 8 years in prison. Because of my clean criminal past, positive characteristics of neighbous and employer, employment contract as proof of my job and the agreement with the prosecution, the sentence was reduced. For 3 years of trial I have to keep myself out of any trouble, meaning in any way I do not want to commit a crime, because on a second court the past crime penalty will be added to the new one (for example of what you wrote in the last paragraph). I did not loose my licence. The bad news is, it expires shortly after and I will have trouble renewing it because of my criminal record now. I am not doing any homemade pyro stuff anymore, since two years ago, when this trouble happened to me, and I am not willing to.
ddewees Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Good to hear! Although, just being on this site is probably a violation of your probation... The other "penalty" is the amount of money you'll have to spend on probation for 3 years... in the US, I think it's around $50/mo.
Arthur Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Good to hear you still have your liberty. Hope the professional fx work keeps you employed, maybe you can rise to international fame/importance, (work on a Bond film or something like) so that you are important to professional sfx and movies on a world scale.
MrB Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 I did not loose my licence. The bad news is, it expires shortly after and I will have trouble renewing it because of my criminal record now.Not sure about there, but here, if you renew it before it expires, it's a whole different ballgame. Almost automatic rubber stamp approval. Best of luck.B!
BurritoBandito Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Indeed you should be very careful not to violate the terms of your probation. It sucks that this happened to you, but the outcome could've been much worse. Just mind your p's and q's for a while, dot your i's cross your t's, and do whatever else is necessary to cover your a. Don't wanna hear about you getting f'd over this.
