dangerousamateur Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 (edited) I just like to know your opinion on that: Does a catalyst make the fuel more sensitive? For small inserts I want of course maximum noise. A catalyst adds to noise, but in my opinion this is mostly due to faster burn. A larger burning area with the same amount of fuel without catalyst will achieve the same.Do you agree? What do you use? Besides:How long can you store whistlemix? Does it degrade somehow over time? Edited April 5, 2012 by dangerousamateur

There is more sound created by more fuel, that is achieved by either a faster burn or more fuel burning at once, it's a trade off. I used some whistle mix that a retired pyro made in 2007 and it worked just as well as the fresh stuff I made. I saw and smelled no degradation. -dag
dangerousamateur Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 I would use a phlegmatizer anyway. So what I mean is vaseline + 70/30.Or will that slow down the fuel to much without catalyst?
dagabu Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I suggest that you use mineral oil and camping gas, no melting is necessary, it is WAY easier to do and the result is the same. -dag
