fred815 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 This website seems pricey?? Considering most everywhere else is FREE!! Is it really worth it?? Have tried guest membership but access to only one older issue available??
nater Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 (edited) It is worth every penny, and more. Edited February 16, 2012 by nater

busspuppy Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 If for no other reason I like the formula database. But there is a lot of good stuff on there. I really like it.

Have tried guest membership but access to only one older issue available?? I'd say it's worth it if you want to browse the article archives, you should be able to see the index and make a judgement based on that. However, I haven't seen any updates in many months, and wouldn't put any value on the forum. Personally I only use the formula database. Edited February 17, 2012 by optimus
warthog Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) Kyle is working on a new "Issue" now actually. I find the place to be worth every penny. The people there are knowledgable and very helpful once they get to know you. I think this past part has caused many to give it a ""Cliquish" label. These re usually people who get a guest account, try for a week to get info on something and never pay to find out the net result. It isn't the fastest place to get an answer as the membership is usually doing rather than typing. So you will get those answers but it might take more than a week to work everything out, answer the things they ask you so they can better answer the question and so on. Speaking from experience as a person who ad a very rocky start there. I find the place to be a very friendly place now that they know me better. It is UNMODERATED so there are going to be a few folks who can't help themselves and be an ass but that is how it works in groups of people in general. It is especially how people act when they are many miles away from the folks they feel the need to act the fool with and are unlikely to ever met them face to face. Say what you mean and don't try to hide something or act like you are and you will find yourself among some of the better helpers in the hobby. Edited February 17, 2012 by warthog
MikeB Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Passfire is a good resource and worth the price. Considering the frequency of the articles your membership should last a while. I will second what some of the others have said. As with any forum you have to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Mumbles Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 There have been rumors about things switching, but I haven't noticed anything yet. I think when I first subscribed, it was $40/12 issues. They started off as being published about every month, so that meant it was $40/yr. At the rate things have been going there are maybe 1-2 articles a year. It looks like it's $50/6 issues now. This will last several years. If you find you don't like it, you don't need to renew your subscription. I fully expect the 8 issues I have remaining will last at least 4-5 more years. I like it. The archives are full of good information. The forum has a lot of excellent information as well, and a host of very intelligent individuals. As with any place there is the good and bad. I don't think it takes too long to figure out who's on top of their stuff and who's full of it. I've really only had minor clashes with people on the forum. Maybe I'm just very likeable (ha!), or am able to keep my cool. There are certainly some very opinionated people with rather strong personalities.
