i have a lot of coppar and i wounder if there are any way to make some usefull of this. how do you make copparoxide? ore any thing else that might be coming handy in pyro??

Is the copper sheets? or powder. If it is sheets then it would be very inefficient to turn it into copper oxide. Unless you had a powerfull flame you would have to dissolve it in acid (nitric) and decompose the Cu(NO3)2 by heat, but this would make NO2 aswell. But Copper nitrate can be used as an oxidizer on it's own. (I'm not very familiar with it though and you would probably need another oxidizer with it too). You could make a coil for a distillery (see alcohol) Search on google.

Check your spelling.

are there any chek spelling button, my eng suck :D

I always made my Copper Monoxide - CuO For use in compositions by treating Copper Sulphate solution with NaOH (common lye): 100g Dry CuSO4 was treated with 50g solid NaOH in 5g portions over a long time (be careful, the mix will heat up fast).

Alternatively, Powdered or finely divided Cu could be added to an NaOH solution.

The filtered solution was then roasted over a flame, the fine black powder should be fairly pure CuO.

That's just my suggestion anyway. :)

Just buy it from Discount Pyro or pick some up at the closest pottery supply outlet.

Look up on google. Search the forum.

Copper is quite an unrective metal. It wont do very much unless it is a powder. Build something with it. Or sell it. If I were you I would make copper nitrate with it, and make electrodes for some elecrolysis. This is just off the top of my head.

This is a good way to get CuO out of Copper: Make a solution with water and Sodiumpersulfate (you can get this in good shops for electronic devices), put your copper in the solution and let it there until any reaction stops. Mix the solution with NaOH, light blue copper hydroxid will precipitate, this can be changed to black CuO by heating it or by leaving it alone for some time.

Or use Sulfuric acid instead of sodium persulfate, it does react at the right concentration. Also nitric acid will work to, but NO2 will be made.

If you cannot but sodium persulfate, make it! Heat NaHSO4 to 350 Degrees celcius, and it will convert to persulfate.

Sulfuric acid will produce SO2, but that probably depends on the conc too. I do believe that was at high conc. Also, heat will make sulfuric acid react at high concentrations. It's probably similar to nitric acid and aluminum where high concentrations won't react after an initial oxide layer is formed, but lower concentration will react reguardless.

I personally don't think this is worth it, You will end up doing much more work and spending more dissolving it than most copper salts are worth.

ok i think i will sell my coppar and by my self some fun chemicals

That's a good idea :D

Or else use diluted sulferic acid with an added oxidiser, like H2O2.

For the rest there are a lot of things to do with copper..

Substitute the H2SO4 with HCl and you will make some CuCl2 that you could use to impregnate wod with... i made 1,5 kilo of that stuff and made a 10 liter solution with water, then i submerged peaces of wood in the solution ower night. when dry the stuff burned with the most beautiful blu flame...

Bevare of the toxic Cl gas that might evolve if you add the H2O2 to fast... making 1,5 kilos in a safe way from copper wires required several days of periodic adition of H2O2

Lycka till

TurboSnail, unless there's a compelling reason to do so (and you actually add something to the discussion), please don't resurrect threads that are two-plus years old. Thank you.

And I think this should be locked, given its age and that it's wound its course.
