Oh, the red and green rockets had 250 gram headers, they obviously need a MUCH heavier header on them...
cplmac
Or you could use less delay and get those heads firing off a little closer to the ground. Very nice stuff al! I can't wait til I can get a ball shell to break with that kind of symmetry.
qwezxc12
Were the green and red rockets the "Ruby Red" and "Emerald Green" formulas that Skylighter posted or your own composition?...good performance and they're very nice looking.

I'll post videos (good, bad, or indifferent) as soon as I can out there and light the damn stuff.

deadman
I'm not normally one to beg (publicly), but what was that blue formula? I can't see that being one not using AP. I would even believe they were robbed from a commercial. The shot went off to the side (I think) so I couldn't tell, but except for one I think most of your stars burned out close to the same time. Great job.
Wyvern
Actually they were Veline blue 14mm pumped stars with a little added FeTi for a trail, blue stars are all about purity of the chemicals used. Here is Veline's formula Potassium Perchlorate 55 Copper(II) Oxide, black 15 Parlon 15 Red Gum 9 Magnalium, granular, -200 mesh 6 Dextrin i added +2% FeTi for trail
qwezxc12
As Wyvern said, the weather did clear, so here are a few vids. Pretty green flame
I love the colour on the 3" emerald green, it's very beautiful, other are also excelent but the emerald green is my favorite. Mind sharing the emeral green formula? Keep up the good work.
cplmac
Like most salutes this one goes so fast you really need to pause it to see the red well. 2.5" Red Salute By far my most successful red flash formula yet. Not big on the report but the color was pretty good, and it did report. Q the orange strobing tail you have is phenominal! I also liked the emerald green, and the orange comet. Great stuff and nice breaks, if only I could get my stuff to break like that...
qwezxc12
I love the colour on the 3" emerald green, it's very beautiful, other are also excelent but the emerald green is my favorite. Mind sharing the emeral green formula?PGF, The Green formula appears to have around the net for a while. I first saw it in Skylighter's #32 newsletter: "Red, Green, Blue, and Purple Rockets". It's also on Passfire listed as "Emerald Green MgAl" with Kyle as the source...so I do not know whom to give credit to. It is however, a nice intense green: Barium Nitrate 50 Potassium Perchlorate 8 Magnalium, -325 mesh 12 Parlon 18 Sulfur 5 Charcoal Airfloat 5 Red Gum 2 Dextrin +5 The Ruby Red just subs Strontium Nitrate for the Barium. No special prep: use fine chems or mill seperately, screen together & dampen with 75:25 H20/EtOH. I've both rolled and pumped them. The 3in shell had 3/8" pumped stars. They do need a hot prime to reliably light, but I haven't seen the need to to step prime. I give them two good coats of my quick & dirty stuff: BP Greenmix 75BP Meal 255 mic sph Al +5-325 MgAl +5CMC +2 ****************************************************** cplmac, The comets are bound with Resorcinol resin thinned with alcohol...it doesn't outgas much, washes up with water, and (best yet) the 50g 1.5" dia comets were hard as concrete and ready to shoot the next day. Maybe my new favorite comet binder. I'm currently tweaking my D1 comets - they don't glitter nearly enough with the resin binder so far.
cplmac
Got a handful of new ones today. My first attempt at a 2.5" crossette. Should have let it fully dry. Bronze Glitter. This is a formula I made on accident while looking for drippy glitter. Video does not do the strange color justice. My first 4lb rocket. This is BP to red strobe to white strobe to report. cplmac
In person there was no red or purple, there was a combination of green orange and copper? It was strange. As for sharing the comp, no problem. I have to dig it up.
cplmac
Tried something new this week, Girandolas. I did not put a head on them because I'm planning on making two stagers that need to be somewhat quiet. Anyhow, the first test is a single stage with just the single stage drivers. The second test is a single stage with empty second stage motors weighted as if they were loaded. The next one will be a legitimate two stager with glitter comets attached. Single stage Girandola Single stage Girandola with second stage dummy motors
Aquarius
Looks cool, Mac.What kind of drivers are you using? I would suspect coreburners due to the fast take-off. I am not the best on girandloas but I would use endburners to make the takeoff a bit slover and to really give the "rising girandola" credit. These spinning wheels are amazing. Very nice work!! qwezxc12
4in RAP ball shell re-enforced with fiberglass strapping tape1/2" pumped FireFly #3 stars (I have a lot of these made up)Burst is 2:1 poplar BP rice crispies + ~1.5g 70:30 flash boosterTwo 3/4" x 1/2" Firefly rising cometsWeight 273gLift: 24g 12-16mesh newspaper BP Prefire:http://www.apcforum.net/files/4inshell.jpg Video:4in Firefly The rising comets didn't ignite fom the lift because I didn't prime them...dumb experiment. They did light from the burst, though...go figure. You can see them as the last two longer burning stars. I wanted to see if the break was much different than I've been getting with KBenz whistle. The 'flash' from the flash was much more noticable... The firefly really looks great in person...the -36mesh charcoal adds nice hang time that isn't caught on my crappy camera. I think it'll look nice in a really hard break; I'll try a coupette or flashbag with 3-4g of flash next time.

cplmac
I like the break of that 4", good symmetry for a shell with two turns of fibertape for pasting! The girandolas were core burners. I think I'm gonna do some endburning tests for the same reasons you stated.
qwezxc12
Thanks. In the past, I tried taping my 3" shells in single and double overlapping layers, similar to traditional paper pasting patterns. I couldn't see any difference in the breaks doing it this way vs. multiple turns in 3 or 4 places. I now tape my 4" plastic shells with 3 layers in four places in this pattern. It's much faster and cuts down on the amount of tape needed:http://i14.tinypic.com/4ie29t4.gif 3" shells are similar...they get two layers in three places: two around the "poles" spaced 90 deg, and one around the "equator". My goal is to get all my 4" to break like this one (posted previously): 4in White to Ruby Red When I manage that consistantly, I'll be a happy man...
