JFeve81 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 So this is my first official post to the pyro community. Not sure were exactly to put it so if it's in the wrong spot forgive me. I originally got into the pyro scene with the Turbo Pyro kit. Don't knock it. It worked well for me. But I recently got a ball mill. It's the one skylighter sells. Bought it from Harbor Freight and set it up according to Ned's instructions on the Skylighter site. Used some of my Turbo pyro supplies to make a batch of black powder and milled it for 3 and a half hours. Came out as you would expect. Fluffy. Lit a small test patch and it burned faster then my previous attempts so I considered it a success. Made up a couple cored test rockets (3/8" ID, 9/16" OD, 3.5" long) using the mill dust. The first one I used straight mill dust. The second I mixed in a little 80 mesh charcoal. Both far exceeded my expectations. I am pretty happy with the way my first batch of milled black powder turned out. Next test will be to see what kind of heading these little rockets can carry. Here's the videos. californiapyro Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 very nice. I have that same tooling set, meal d really makes em zip ive found that straight meal can take up a 2 inch shell with some difficulty, more like 25 grams is a good header. ive done all sorts of things with that set, if you want some ideas feel free to PM, or check out the vids here's an example... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQUWgl8WHjk welcome to pyro!
