Nozzles, Pressed or Rammed ?

I was wondering if it's necessary to press in your nozzle mix(Benite or Catlittler) if your building whistle rockets(4 oz for now),or can you simply save a little time and ram the nozzle mix with a raw hide hammer.

For the record I would never dream of ramming the whislte mix,I was only curious on the nozzle.

Also after the whistle mix is in,is it necessary to add any additional Benite or katlitter on top of that(Pressed of course since it's on top of the sensitive whislte mix)

Thanks

From everything I have heard of or seen about using whistle powder as a rocket propellent it has always been pressed into an end burning style rocket. The powder is supposedly very powerfull and will blow up your tubes if confined by a nozzle.

First... read other posts... this question could have easily been answered by reading the other threads.... all the information is in there don't worry. But I'll give you some info... The standard for whistle rockets is to not use a nozzle at all, but in fact, press the rocket in a reverse manner. First press the clay endplug, then press the whistle comp. leaving, I would imagine, at least 1 ID length of empty tube between the end of the composition and the end of the tube.

And to Moonshot, the term End Burning does not mean nozzless, but only that the rocket does not have a core.

Is it necessary to add a end plug to the whislte mix \,or can you just have the whislte mix as the entire ingridient if you just want a whislte rocket with no end effects ? Thanks.

I never use a nozzle on whistle rockets, end burning or cored. And as far as a plug between your propellant and heading, you could if you wanted to but I've found it really isn't necessary.

If you go back to the thread you had started on "4oz rocket help" I have a PDF posted in there of how I make cored 4oz whistle rockets. I used to press the whistle mix, then a delay, then my heading (usually a little flash for a salute). But I've since started leaving the delay out, I just press the whistle mix as high as I can then fill the top cavity with flash and tape a cardboard disk to the top to close up the casing.

That's exactly what I do. Actually I thought the extra comp you pressed up top was the delay. I fill the rest with flash and tape on an end disc.

You're right. Anything more than 1/4" above the spindle cavity adds negligible thrust and can be considered delay or rising effects.
