TheArchitect23 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 I recently sold my nitro RC car, and found about 6 bottles of fuel left over. maybe about to expire.does anyone happen to know what this fuel is made of? any worth in pyrotechnics?solvent perhaps? just curious as judging from the bottles being a bit "bowed" i assume that they are going to be useless as quality fuel.. seems like a waste if i just throw them away.
mabuse00 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 (edited) This stuff is hygroscopic, so I bet it's spoiled for the original purpose. I don't think there's any reasonable use in Pyro. Methanol might be useful for some purposes, but since it's contaminated with nitromethane, lubricants and anti corrosion inhibitors I'd say it's useless. Not to mention it's toxicity, must be a PITA to work with. Plastic bottles suck for such stuff - I use glass bottles with teflon seals, that way it lasts forever. Edited October 30, 2011 by mabuse00
TheArchitect23 Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 the plastic bit i also suspected, but its the original bottling. versus my other few "tin" cans full. disappointing... very expensive stuff.as for the PITA part, its actually quite stable, and doesn't have a foul or pungent odor, burns green too
drthrust Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 lampare headed bp motor?, ive made them myself
Arthur Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Well it's oil, nitromethane and methanol plus a few additives. It's largely not separable into components. Wiki for azeotrope if you need. Probably the best user would be the new owner of your old RC car if he's local.
