oldguy Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 (edited) Was at my boys job site & spotted some real thick walled big diameter used ABS pipe. What's cool is the 1 and 1.5 inch wall thickness. Asked the contractor if I could have some. He said, free if you take it all. Trying to figure out how & where to put it. Must be 20 tons. Edited October 20, 2011 by oldguy
Arthur Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Somehow I think there will be a lot of 8" mortars available somewhere! My 6" mortars came from a similar stack of pipe.
WSM Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Turns out this pipe is HDPE, not ABS. ABS = Brittle, Dangerous = BAD HDPE = EXCELLENT for mortars = A most excellent find! Now for the hard part; getting it from where it is to where it can be used!!! WSM
PersonGuyDude Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 I would blow some up to make sure it's HDPE before you use it for mortars.Should be an easy task for any Pyro
californiapyro Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 hehe. give some to xtremepyro, he could use the 8s
Potassiumchlorate Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) My ballmill drum and my 5" mortars are made of similar pipes. Edited October 25, 2011 by Potassiumchlorate
VintageRacer Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Boy what a find ! Reminds me of years ago getting all the Walnut log pieces I could fit in my poor little Mazda truck at the time, dragging them through the mud with a two-wheeler . Most of us wouldn't have a way to handle such a huge pile of HDPE (in terms of weight and storage). If you do manage somehow to obtain some of this it would be good for guns and mill jars. I'd be interested... VR
Timm Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) You know what i've found makes for kick-ass mill jars? Red poly tortilla warmers from walmart. Soft yet wear well, stackable, thick, and about 5 bucks. Yeah they dont seal tight, thats where a few feet of black tape comes in handy.. other than that they're perfect. Especially after you pop-rivet in an aluminum shelf-thing/agitator or two, for lifting your media and dropping it onto the next one! Edited December 22, 2011 by Timm
