Rellizate Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Hey, I'm trying to make Mg/KNO3 flash powder. I have found it very hard to find and Mg powder however; and I was wondering: Would shavings work for flash powder? These are the kind of thing I was talking about:http://www.xtremesurvival.co.uk/ViewItem.php?ItemID=47
Mumbles Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 The only thing I can tell you is that it depends on the particle size. From looking at it, I would say probably not. In anycase, I really don't think many people will be willing to help you out. We are rather ant-newbies making flash here. It is obvious you don't have nearly enough experience to be safely making flash powder.
Chemguy Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 It won't work, if you could crush it into a powder, which is virtually impossiblr it would work. Look on eBay, they have Mg powder sometimes. \But you should probably start with something easier to get, like Al powder or Zn powder.
Ozzy Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 What fuck, dont make a new thread every time you wanna know somthing ffs.
Mumbles Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Ozzy, shut the fuck up. You're not a mod. Leave that kind of stuff to us.
pyrochris Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 You know its true Ozzy, the fact that it might be true, doesnt mean you need to be posting about it. let mumbles handle it, thats what he's here for. your on thin ice as it is, just chill with the outbursts and youll be fine
Rellizate Posted September 30, 2006 Author Posted September 30, 2006 What fuck, dont make a new thread every time you wanna know somthing ffs. Where am I supposed to post then? In a already made thread? I would get flammed by you if I did that. :-/
Ozzy Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 I would understand if you wanted to ask a few saftey tips or somthing but you want us to spoon feed you every thing.
Rellizate Posted September 30, 2006 Author Posted September 30, 2006 Right... I've only asked whether my tubes were normal M-80 size, whether shavings would work in place of powder, and whether anyone knows of any good places to buy Mg powder.

I know you want to know facts and all, but you seem like just another k00l b0mb d3wd to me.
Rellizate Posted September 30, 2006 Author Posted September 30, 2006 I know you want to know facts and all, but you seem like just another k00l b0mb d3wd to me. Lol, I know what you mean. But I have already been into Home-Made fireworks for 1 and a half years (nearly). When I said I was new to it, I ment relitivly (sp?) new. I said that, comparing myself to some of the pros, who have been doing it for their whole life, on this website.
pa_pyro Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 As mumbles said, the shavings wont work very well in flash. KNO3 flash made with coarse Mg will just crackle and burn very bright.(which makes a nice star effect with some boric added, but the mesh size for that is even lower than those coarse shavings) Before you make any more threads on Mg think about mesh size. The people here don't like spoonfeeding.(read my signature ) Which would you think would burn better, aluminum shavings or finely powder german dark? The mesh size should be at a minimum of 300 fo decent Mg flash. If you cant find a way to powder it then you should't be here. GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND!

Rellizate Posted September 30, 2006 Author Posted September 30, 2006 Well, thanks a lot guys. I'll try to refrain from spoonfeeding now.
blasterman Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 and whether anyone knows of any good places to buy Mg powder. Try Walmart. feminine hygiene section.
Mumbles Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 What the fuck are you talking about? Please stop posting retarded bullshit.
blasterman Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 So, you'd prefer to me to post actual information on how this guy can obtain fuel grade Mg, -vs- have him waste immense amounts of time running through Walmart trying to find something that doesn't exist while amusing the hell out of store staff? Somebody needs a vacation I've noted that the lack of one's ability to find these materials seems somewhat in proportion to their lack of ability in handling them safely. I would assume we both don't find that a bad thing, but maybe I was wrong.
Mumbles Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 How about just not posting if you have nothing to add to the conversation?
Polumna Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Rellizate, If u can´t get good Magnesiumpowder, then u should use sandpaperto grind magnesium down. the best grit size is 60, with this size u can get a decent amount ofof magnesium. u can sieve out the sand by putting the magnesium on a piece of paperand then shake the paper back and forth. I hope i´ve helped u, Polumna
Dr. Hextromeister Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Believe it or not, I've made fairly decent flash with shavings from a few pencil sharpners.
crazyboy25 Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 i was also looking for magnisium powder for KNO3/Mg flash but then i found firefox DUH they sell up to 500 mesh Mg but if you are getting chemicals from survival websites and supermarkets you probably shouldn't be making flash powder (iyou would kill yourself)
mormanman Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 I’m sorry if its already up but see I tried that kno3/mg thing to make (not a bomb) but to put in my fountain. And I tried the comp out side of the fountain first (I always do that so I can get an idea of how its going to burn) and nothing happened the kno3 just melted and I use a blowtorch and everything I was disappointed. I edited this one.
Mumbles Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Fountain comps are tricky. It'd be like trying to burn the components of BP before milling them. The pressure generated inside the fountain makes all the difference. Outside the fountain you may only get it sizzling or slagging up, maybe a few stray sparks. Inside though, a proper fountain comp will preform much better. I've never tried anything like the comp you're talking about so I can't say if this applies.
