psymon Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 All pyros in the UK should now be thinking about November the 5th. I know I am. What are you all planning to do? Any people having displays at home using home made devices? Are you off to a display?I am thinking of having a display at my house or at my brothers. Then he can buy some commercial fireworks and I will bring my home made ones. Put them side by side and see who comes out the best. I am sure I will go to a few big displays too.So far I have prepared 8x 1.5inch mortars with glitter - green and blue stars. I have my arbor press out again so I need to make a few rockets. I want to make some bigger mortars too. I just need to find a suitable cardboard tube for launching. I will make some wheels, fountains and bangers. If I can get some more perc then some whistles too.I shall of course be using my out of date distress flares and parachute rockets. Should beat almost all commercial STANDARD or Brocks fireworks... What is everyone else doing in the UK?
maximusg Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 In tribute to the motherland im gonna celebrate november the 5th. I also celbrate the 5th of july. I find it an obligation to celebrate the holidays of my internation neighbours. the usual 3 & 4" ball shells with mgal stars, and few 1lb rockets. Also various spinners, flyers, cakes and little things to tinker with.
weknowpyro Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I have plans to make a cake probably with red, white and blue stars just to be patriotic. Probably a couple of 1 inch shells with dragons eggs. Also for my final i am making a lance sign in red saying 5th Nov.
optimus Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I'm going to try and stockpile a fair amount of homemade devices this year - probably consisting of 3" mines, 3/4" cakes, and probably some spinning set-pieces too. I may also get round to stringing a whole load of spinning crackers together, wither a few larger string-bound ones to finish. My boss has also suggested that I may be entrusted with a large budget for a display around the 5th. Should be fun if it actually happens! then there's always the traditional garden display (commercial, NOT homemade) which should use up a couple of hundreds worth of pyro. Careful with those para-rockets psymon. They give a nasty kick when they go off - make sure you have a very sturdy grip (kneeling helps), and point your face directly away from the device. Also, make sure you're not near a built up area - they have a habit of veering off course and landing on buildings, especially the out-of-date ones.
psymon Posted September 26, 2006 Author Posted September 26, 2006 Yeah the distress rockets are not that old. just maybe 6 months out of date. I have let off loads of these in the past. I live in the sticks so not too much danger from fallout. They do go with a bang to start. And that commercial rocket fuel is just so powerful. There is the smallest of flame out of the aluminium nozzle. When they do light up 15,000 candela is awesome...
joe609 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Im plannig on a few 2.5 inch ball shells with red stars, some mines the usual like that, also i want to do a roman candle and some arial salutes so i might incorporate it all into one big cake.
Mardec Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Sorry but what is on November the fift? You are talking of Great Britain right? The only thing I know that has something to do with pyro on the fift of november is the gunpowder threaty? I do not want to offend anyone, I just don't know
asilentbob Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Guy Fawkes (sp) day. I have givin a bit of thought to it, but the bulk of my stuff im saving for new years. Mabey a couple star mines to test stars or something.
psymon Posted September 28, 2006 Author Posted September 28, 2006 Yesterday I managed to get my hands on some carpet tubes with an I.D of 10cm. So looks like I will have some pretty big mortars to add to the collection of fireworks this year. Does anyone have a good mix/method for sparklers? Would like to make the wire kind - maybe tube type would be ok.
maximusg Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 I <3 carpet tubes for mortars. I have a huge range of sizes from them. Safe and cheap (free!) what more could you ask for in a mortar.
optimus Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Does anyone have a good mix/method for sparklers? Would like to make the wire kind - maybe tube type would be ok. I like the Degn dipped fire sticks. That reminds me - I should make some for this Nov... they sure beat the crap outta the bought ones : )
Rellizate Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 I've just made 2000grams of BP (ballmilled for 3 days), 200 stars, a waterfall, and some Buzz Bombs. I'm going to let them off almost simutaniously. It's my biggest batch of everything yet!
