TheSidewinder Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 What links, specifically, please? Internet Explorer should work, although... make sure you are not using Compatibility Mode. That's the little "torn page" icon to the right of the address bar. Make sure it's grayed out, not colored. Click the icon to change it.
Mumbles Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I figured it was because he hadn't made any posts yet. The links to files, certain parts of the forum, some downloads, and some things in the gallery don't work until you're a "full member".
Jumpindan Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Hello crew, I wanted to introduce myself as a new member of the forums. My name is Dan, and although I have worked in energetics for several years, this is my first venture into recreational pyrotechnics. I really look forward to soaking in everyone's experience. 1
hdsammy Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Could you please point me in the direction where I could find a tutorial on how to make a canister shell, or rocket, or anything that would be good for a newbie to practice his skills. ThanksSkylighter.com has kits with tooling and chemicals along with tutorials that are pretty good. One of the projects is 4 ounce BP rocket and they show you how to add a heading on it. You should check it out if you haven't already.
hindsight Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Just started pressing rocket nozzles using Wolters BP tooling and various recommended nozzle mixtures (containing Bentonite &/or Hawthorn clay &/or graphite &/or paraffin &/or grog). The nozzles have been pressed anywhere from 5400 to 8000 lbs and look beautiful. But before pressing the BP and testing the rockets I am apprehensive because each nozzle mix is easily scratched off the pressed nozzle with a fingernail. Is this okay? Obviously I am new to this process. Please help.
hindsight Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Aright. I got the answer to my question about scratching off bits of pressed nozzle mix. Seymour and Maserface were kind enough to allow me to intrude on their chat room conversation. Now I have another question -- about using a commercially available BP like FA or FG (or the like) with the BP tooling Wolter provides. I have been warned against using commercial BP in general with his BP spindle/rammer set and respect the experience and knowledge of my superiors. Is there any way I can continue using my existing tooling with some unaltered commercial BP?
LTUPyro Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Commercial BP would probably to fast for nozzled coreburners, and can cause CATO. Commerial BP should be sutable for End burners and Nozzleles coreburnerns.
hindsight Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Labas LTUpyro. Thanks for the answer . Isn't there some grade of commercially available gunpowder which could be used with my BP tooling. And I know nothing about nozzleless coreburners. Could I use my current BP tooling just without pressing a nozzle?
LTUPyro Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) I don't think so, most Commercial BlackPowders are to fast for nozzled core-burners, also I don't recommend using "BlackPowder subtitute", because they can contain Kclo4 or other chemicals for more power.Yes, you can use your current tooling for nozzleles rockets. Just don't press clay and start with BP. You can read more about it here : http://www.skylighte...eed-rockets.asp Edited September 9, 2013 by LTUPyro
hindsight Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) Okay. No commercial BP's , not even cannon grade, 1FA, 1FG, etc. on a coreburner. Thanks also for the Skylighter reference. Excellent read. I also found an old APC forum topic about nozzleless vs endburner vs coreburner and got a little education there. Eventually I'd like to have enough thrust to lift something more than the 1" ID rocket itself. Skylighter article says nozzleless rockets can lift heavy payloads. Can I do that with a 3lb nozzleless and commercial BP? I am committed to commercial BP for a number of reasons, including the fact that I have ready access to it. And, as stated above, I already have Wolter's 3lb BP tooling --and lots of 3lb NEPT tubes. (It's amazing what you can stumble upon at garage sales). How far can I fill up the 10" NEPT with BP? I appreciate your help. Edited September 9, 2013 by hindsight
LTUPyro Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Commercial BP for 3lb Nozzleles should work fine. From my experience I found that Nozzleles rocket are more powerful than Nozzled Coreburners. With my 1 lb Nozzleles motors I have succesfully lifted +300 grams payload. I press just enough BP to cover spindle and then press delay comp on that.
hindsight Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I appreciate your knowledge, experience and willingness to share information. I am currently working on a very safe method of pressing rockets remotely. Just as soon as I have completed the safer rocket pressing system I will press a 3lb nozzzleless rocket with commercial BP and BP tooling. By the way, English appears to be your native language (it is my secondary language), although you list Lithuania as your location. Thanks again.
