usapyro Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I am thinking of getting this media for a new 15Lb ball mill... And just filling the centers of them with molten lead... http://www.cheapsinkers.com/SLIDING-EGG-SINKERS_c5.htm But, I have no idea what size to get... I have heard two different sizes performs the best. Any thoughts?
toster Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Those will be really hard to fill the centers in. I have a Lorton 6, and 12 lb rock tumblerthat I use for a ball mill. I went with.600 dia musket balls (poured my own) Ittakes quite a while. I bought reclaimedlead from a shotgun range, and then bought antimony from ebay. Making 1 ball at a time sucks, it takes alotof balls to half fill that 12 lb jar!!! The ball diameter plays in to the efficiency of the ballmill. I the formula is Critical Speed =265.45 / (sq root (jar id - ball od)). Then the optimum RPM is 65% of theCS. (per Lloyd Sponenburgh) So you can see that the ball diameter plays asmall roll in how fast you need your ball mill to turn.

Any thoughts? Sorry USA, the molten lead will solidify as soon as it hits the sinkers, you may be able to cap the holes but there is no way you will be filling them. I suggest one of three solutions, lead filled copper pipe (my favorite!), SST balls and Marshmallows. I make the filled copper tubes from wheel weights (very hard lead) and 1/2" copper tube, it is then pressed to 5000 psi to swedge the lead to the copper. I have been selling these for three years and have gotten rave reviews. http://www.pyrobin.com/files/100_2329_2.jpg http://www.pyrobin.com/files/100_2332.jpg http://www.pyrobin.com/files/100_2331.jpg -dag
usapyro Posted June 1, 2011 Author Posted June 1, 2011 Nice, which website is yours? I have not seen that copper/lead media anywhere.
dagabu Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Your lookin at it I make batches to suit. I only sell what others are looking for and in small quantities since it takes so darn long to make them. The price is $.50 each piece plus USPS Priority shipping which runs $15.00. I have some seconds and will ship a singe piece for $1.00 plus shipping if anyone is interested.
