PurpleFlare Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Sorry i was gone for a while, but was busy with life and trying to get more materials. I finally got my hands on few more key materials!!! I have been looking into making a gerb (Foundation) and experimenting with few materials I scavenge or made (lithium metal, copper, etc...) However I found a mix of potassium and sulfur and one more inderigrates which I prefer to not state (will name reason shortly) and lighted small test sample. It was beautiful! But then I start to really question the idea.I'm afraid I have made a flash powder! I really don't want to touch that stuff!!! How do I know if it is a flash powder or not? I'm willing to private message trusted member the last inderigrate if asked. Thanks.

It will be one of 3 things Dark Al , finely divided magnalium.finely divided lithium and yes that would make flash powder, if it happens to be something like lithium that well that should never be mixed with an oxidiser lol
PurpleFlare Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 Well I used regular aluminum powder mesh 400 as last inderigrate.
Ralph Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Well I used regular aluminum powder mesh 400 as last inderigrate. this would have burned hot makes an ok flare or star composition after the addition of a binder
PurpleFlare Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 So it isn't a flash powder actually? Is it as dangerous or not? I'd really like to keep all of my fingers lol
Mumbles Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Percentages are just as important as the ingredients (notice the spelling). I'd treat it like a flash powder, as it probably is. Strength is another matter though. Just because it isn't a flash, doesn't magically make it not dangerous. It's kind of worrisome that you're seemingly randomly mixing chemicals without thinking about the outcomes. That is not how pyro or chemistry is done. You really should take a step back, work with established formulas, and get some real experience. You'll never reinvent the wheel or discover anything new doing what you're doing.
PurpleFlare Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 Alright thanks for the input. I'll just avoid this one then.
