Metastasis of Calcinit to NH4NO3?

I have no reasonable source of NH4NO3 OT the 2oz cold packs@ 50cents an oz +.So in response Im attempting metastasis using calcinit 5Ca(NO3)2 NH4NO3 10H2O/ammonium sulphate. As any of you who have tried it know its difficult to filter the( hopefully) AN solution from the calcium sulphate with a thin plasterlike consistency.

Ive let the solution settle then decant the clear which would leave likely at least half the possible AN.Aside from a PRESSURE FILTER that I have yet to make I just tried to use a thick t-shirt as a sort of tourniquet. It seemed relatively successful. The filtrate wasnt a clear liquid but it did leave a relatively speaking just damp ball of calcium sulphate inside t-shirt.Ill recover whats left by again decanting the clear liquid.Time will tell how much of the total nitrates Im recovering from a 15.5%N, actual content 14.5%, 1% being ammonical nitrogen.

Any pointers how to squeeze the last possible bit of nitrates from this stuff?

Finally will the AN decompose from prolonged boiling trying to reduce volume of the solution?Any pointers is much appreciated.

Remaining calcium sulphate/nitrogen might make a decent fruit tree fert-lawn care?:D

I think you're looking for the word metathesis. Metastasis is cancer spreading from organ to organ.

AN should be stable in boiling solution. In fact, it may be a way to make it easier to filter. Boiling the CaSO4/AN mixture will give coarser CaSO4 particles, which will allow better filtration. I'd take the moist ball of CaSO4, mix it up with more water, and filter again. 2 filtrations should get a majority of the AN, 3 should get nearly all of it.

Thanks!,Also for correcting the spelling blooper!Trying to get the spelling correct looked at the wrong meaning.Im boiling down the liqour as we speak.Hope to be able to report some success since I dont think its to suitable for HNO3 etc.My garden will enjoy however. But not until ive exhausted all possibilitys.

Thanks again
