Duane Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Hello,Duane from Ohio here.I LOVE Pyrotechnic displays, but what has brought me here is that I have recently purchased a storage unit which contained some commercial Pyrotechnics tooling, hundreds of spiral wound tubes, three pounds of German Blackhead, some coarse Magnesium and about ten pounds of potassium perchlorate. I have identified some of the parts, star press and plates, some valves, Dayton electric motor, pressure gauge, lead balls for milling, but have yet to identify them all. I really need to get my money back out of this unit but need to know what I have first. Thank You in advance.Duane
Bilbobaker Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Don't have a clue as to what's in those pictures.... best guess some worn ball media an attempt at star tooling and you say a couple pounds of fine aluminum... not so valuable to me.Just my 2 cents worth of observation.Could be worth more to someone in the know however.

Thanks for your input BilboBaker. Non of the materials looks worn or possibly even used at all.I believe this person was a licensed pyrotechnition, I also found membership information and 1997 PGI Convention competition Rule Book.In this unit I also found catalogs from FireFox and Skylighter. I used to order from FireFox back in the early 90's but not sure they are still in business. The German Blackhead and Potassium Perchlorate were both ordered from Skylighter as the reciepts are still there. The German Blackhead and potassium are both in their original shipping packages with all of the proper labeling and MSDS sheets. I'd like to make sure that goes to a responsible person. Not certain what you mean by an attempt at star tooling? This star press and plates are certainly not an unprofessional design attempt. These were made on a CNC or equivilant type machinery and is made of aluminum. A set of these plates alone sells for between $62 and $75 at Skylighter. I would imagine the press they fit in are much more valuable than the plates. The valve = $249.99Vibrolator = $69.99Pressure guage = $69.99Dayton motor = $100 +Most of the other parts, what appears to be two presses, fuse timer etc. are all made of very heavy stainless. I'm not certain of the exact weight but it had my explorer nearly riding the tires home. I would imagine the scrap value is over $100.There are tubes here in every size and length from 3 to 4 inches long up to six feet. Also some wooden bases and plugs.I'd be happy to sell the lot for 50% of retail.

This is why I suggested Lloyd, he operated a commercial pyro business and could give you better answers then any one of us (besides Bill Ofca) could. None of your tooling can be compared with FireFox or Skylighter, yes, they are both very much in business and going strong but do not have any commercially made tooling, all of theirs (with the exception of some tooling from Firesmith) is Chicom tooling. Also, I see the hole plates for the star plates but not the pin plates. Could you take pictures of each item sitting next to its matched part? Do you have the press? -dag
Duane Posted May 5, 2011 Author Posted May 5, 2011 Thank You All Very Much for your input!!Dagabu, Thank You soo Much for getting me in touch with Lloyd! He was extremely helpful in identifying what I have. It seems the aluminum pieces are the only pyrotechnic tools in the lot, the rest is ??. The guy worked for Hoover company so maybe he was making exploding vaccuum cleaners?? LOLHe has identified what I thought was a star press and plates "the item with the vibrolator attached" is actually a self setting loader for something like waterfalls, the funnel is a dual port shot loader and the plates are stackable cavity plates.I'm still interested in selling those to someone who can use them. I'm not trying to get rich here, 40% or best offer sounds good to me.I'm not sure of the rules here, I believe I did see a forum for, for sale items and will post possible items of interest there, tubes, oxider, magnesium and aluminum.I have admined communities similar to this for the past 10 years and have the utmost respect for admin and staff here. Thank you for having me, I may even stop in from time to time to try and learn something new. Maybe I should just buy the stuff from my partner and start getting ready for this 4th of July Celebration? LOL Once again, Thank You All Very Much for your help, it's been Greatly Appreciated!! Duane Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 Hello Blackthumb, For chemicals:3 pounds of German Blackhead, coated 2+ pounds of coarse aluminum or magnesium, I'm not sure which it is. 10 pounds of potassium perchlorate, it was stored with dessicant but has caked, still tape sealed in original tubs from firefox. For tubes I have:283 pieces 1 inch inside diameter X 3 inches long X 1/8th inch wall 670 pieces 1 inch inside diameter X 2 1/2 X 1/8th inch wall 15 pieces 3 inch inside diameter X 12 1/2 X 1/4 inch wall "actually shrink wrap tubes" 12 pieces 1 inch inside diameter X 6 1/8 X 1/8th inch wall "fountain tubes" There is also some wood blocks for mounting the "fountain tubes" to.a few wood and cardboard end plugs. I also found some new tooling you might be interested in. The round aluminum piece fits perfectly in the one inch tubes. Pictures of everything is included. There are also some 2.5 to 3 inch tubing that is approximately 4 -5 feet long. The chemicals would of course have to ship seperately according to law and shipping regulations. If your interested in any of it let me know via PM and make me a fair offer. Another member has contacted me and is interested, I sent him this same message last night and waiting for his reply. Hava Great weekend ! Duane
