pyrogeorge Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Hi,i found this motor and i would like to tell me any suggestions what pyro tool i can make..At first i think to make a star roller but the motor's run at 3.000rpm,too much rotations.. http://img191.imageshack.us/i/image147z.jpg/ http://img825.imageshack.us/i/image150.jpg/ thanks
MadMax Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Well it looks rather old and may be noisey ineffecient and prone to over heating. But you could use it for a ball mill or a star roller.
NightHawkInLight Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Now that's a heavy duty fan. If it were me I would use it as such. Motors are easy to find, but a machine that solid is hard to come by.
pyrochris732 Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 dont use a fan motor. I dont think it has enough power to spin a ball mill for hours. I think youd want something with at least 1/8 hp.
pyrogeorge Posted March 19, 2011 Author Posted March 19, 2011 no i don't want to make a ball mill because i have one..maybe a new star roller is a good idea but i must reduce the rpm first..
Bonny Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 (edited) I've only ever used fan motors for my ballmill. They do often need external cooling though as the intended airflow is no longer there. The speed is high, but nothing some pulleys and a large drum can't slow down for a star roller. @pyrochris732: I used a 1/15 HP fan motor (no capacitor start) for years milling up to 5lb batches (incl. media). It was a fan motor but was reduced with pulleys to a decent speed. The motor never actaully quit, I just got a better one and retired it. Edited March 21, 2011 by Bonny
