pillyg Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) I dont have a question (for once) but I do want to share what I just did. I was taking apart a radio to fix it, and when I did, I needed something to use as speakers to test if it works. I didnt have any speakers but I did have a small electric motor. I plugged it in and it started vibrating to the bass of the song I was listening to. I turned the volume up and sure enough, I had a speaker from an electric motor. It requires like 100x more power to make like 1/3 the sound of a real speaker, but it works. Edited March 16, 2011 by pillyg
dagabu Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 LOL! You have just discovered the secret behind "rumble seats".
NightHawkInLight Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Now attach the motor to an amp and spin it to create your own music
Richtee Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Wanna really blow your mind? Look up "Leslie speaker".
pillyg Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 Haha thats great! I think its the same idea but at like 1000000x the voltage.I think its cool that you can make speakers out of lots of random stuff that you wouldn't really think of as being a speaker.
Peret Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Speakers and motors are close cousins. They both have coils and permanent magnets and they both produce motion from electric current. You might say a speaker is a linear motor, actually.
