Red iron oxide instead of sulfur = slower BP?

I've heard some reports of iron oxide having a catalytic effect on BP and other nitrate based comps. Nitrate/sugar fuel is probably the most common utilization of this.

Ron Lancaster definitely used red iron oxide as a catalyst for BP like comps. He used it to tweak the burn rate of rockets and gerbes, typically at the 0.05 to 0.5 per cent range.
