oldguy Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 After midnight I went to the store to buy some groceries. A guy was panhandling in front of the store ( looking high & shabby). He told me he left his wallet at home & ran out of gas. Could I spare $5 or $10 bucks for gas. I told him he should not be driving without his ID & drivers license. Sorry buddy, I cannot help you out. Anyone in real trouble, I would help, if possible. But not some obviously high druggy. I left the store, walked to my car & opened the door. Same dude approaches me, this time pulling a knife from about 15 ft back. Telling me to hand over my wallet. I set the sack of groceries on the front seat, reached in the door panel. Pulled out my 40 Glock & clicked the safety off. Then turned and faced the dude showing him the pistol. The stupid fool says, “you going to give me your wallet or not?” I say NO. He says F**k you & turns around, walking away back into the store. I dial 911 on my cell. Police arrive in about 3 minutes. They go into the store, spot the guy & apprehend him. This guy had 3 warrants on him. Ranging from a parole violation, failure to appear & bad checks. Dumb, just plain dumb. I’m glad I wasn’t some push-over.
dagabu Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Aint it nice to be able to carry? Good for you Old Guy.
ballmill Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Well done. It's a shame there's such an abundance of crappy people in this world though.
TheSidewinder Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Very good on ya, but you're far too polite, oldguy. I would have done the same, up to the point of turning around with the gun. Then I'd have shot the bastard stone cold dead. I have zero patience or sympathy for people who threaten me with weapons....
oldguy Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) It may have turned out far different, if I had felt threatened. I think the stupid fool thought displaying a knife would do the trick & I would give up my wallet. Had he advanced towards me aggressively, knife in hand he would be in the morgue now. I'm glad he didn't for his own sake & mine. Had I downed him, it would have involved the coroner & probably hours of bureaucratic process. On the other hand, now we as taxpayers will pay to house, feed & cloth him for years to come. Something isn't fair about free room & board for violent convicted criminals. A Forest Gump saying comes to mind. "Stupid is as stupid does". This guy was stupid. Edited March 3, 2011 by oldguy
DasSchaben Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Nice move. He gave it one last try, and then he walked back into the store? That takes the cake for stupidity.
Ralph Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 your lucky you wearnt in another country lots of unpleasant things could have occurred while you waited 15 min if the police weren't busy or a full 1 hour if they were
nater Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Good for you for staying calm and taking control of the situation. Those of in public safety need to come across more people like yourself.
oldguy Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 Nice move. He gave it one last try, and then he walked back into the store? That takes the cake for stupidity. I could not figure out why he went back in the store either, even though it is a big one.I thought for a second of just leaving. Then I though the fool might try to rob the store, or someone else. So, I dialed 911.I knew the police would be there very quickly. The police station was only 1/4 mile away & at that time of night, no trafic around at all.
daron Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 wow awesome storythi is why i wish in australia ya can have guns we cant even have a screwdriver or poo cue or baseball bat or a pole in the car without getting arrested
oldguy Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 wow awesome storythi is why i wish in australia ya can have guns we cant even have a screwdriver or poo cue or baseball bat or a pole in the car without getting arrested If you had a few baseballs, a mit & bat....in your car.(even if you only wanted the bat for protection)The police would have an issue with that. How else could one play baseball without a mit, balls & a bat.
dagabu Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 A 6 cell mag light is still my favorite in a tight spot.
TheSidewinder Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 A 6 cell mag light is still my favorite in a tight spot. I'd prefer my Combat Commander.
jimbo Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 another instance where a gun actually saved a life, but we can't go around saying that can we,good on you mate
dagabu Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I'd prefer my Combat Commander. I like my Springfield M1911 better then the mag light but I really dont fear getting shot by a twitchy cop when holding a flashlight.
nater Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 A 6 cell mag light is still my favorite in a tight spot. After resolving a violent situation involving a pseudoseizure with a maglight, we were told certain people don't see a flashlight, they see a steel pipe filled with lithium.
dagabu Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 After resolving a violent situation involving a pseudoseizure with a maglight, we were told certain people don't see a flashlight, they see a steel pipe filled with lithium. LOL!!!
donperry Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Old guy you are merciful and sensible. Shooting is always the last resort. The bureaucratic process would not be fun either.
