athlon Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) Hi, I shot a shell tonight with some glitter stars and wondered if you guys know if it cato'ed or what? The shell was a 1 inch rolled tube about 4 inches tall with a spolette tube for delay.I timed the spolette yesterday to 2 seconds and the my burst charge should have broken the shell, but all I saw was a glowing ember type thing falling downwards. The weight of the shell was 33 grams and I used 4 grams of lift.I'll try to attach some consecutive frames from the video for you to see: EDIT:I studied a frame and edited the levels a bit which seems to reveal my shell flying below the bright line shooting up. Mumbles Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Attaching the video might be of more help actually. It's easier to tell what is happening with live action. More details such as type of lift, break charge, how the casing was created, etc may be helpful too. I'd wonder if you maybe flower potted it, and that streamer going up is one of the stars, or maybe the casing burning like a comet instead of a shell. One wonderful thing about shells is that they can't CATO. They can flower pot, muzzle break, and otherwise fail miserably, but we're not subject to those pesky rocket failures.
athlon Posted February 14, 2011 Author Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) I'm not up to the terminology it seems when it comes to fireworks... Flower pot? Here's the video I got: flowerpot.mov Lift used was 4 grams granulated CIA-BPBreak charge was powder coated riceCase was made like the following video: Edited February 14, 2011 by athlon
athlon Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) It sure is a nice fountain if just looking at a still image for long enough! Now I have made a reinforced version of the shell, triple cardboards at each end: Hopefully it'll work better, will try tonight. Forgot to resize... Edited February 15, 2011 by athlon
athlon Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 The shell held up at least, but didn't get enough height so it broke on the way down, I counted 3 seconds on the spolette. This time the shell weighed in at 27g and I used 3 grams of bp lift. I'll make another one and make sure not to forget my phone again so that I can film it.
