BJV Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Hi All, This past week I had a chance to play with some cannon simulators. They are made by NEXT FX.I would sure be interested in what comp. they are using in them.I did take one apart, the comp. is not a flaked Alum.It look like atomized alum. Anyone have an idea what theyuse in them.BJV
NightHawkInLight Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I don't imagine they would use something other than perchlorate/a cheap functional aluminum, it probably is atomized. Is there anything particularly interesting about their performance compared to a normal salute? Do they contain anything for sparks or just a bang with smoke? I'm interested to know under what circumstance you got to use them, unless it's sensitive information that is.

These Cannon Simulator are for indoors for outside use, no sparks just a VERY LOUD report.Check out there site.BJV
NightHawkInLight Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Oh, that's actually much more interesting than I first imagined. It just releases out one side rather than fracturing the tube? I assumed it was a cannon simulator simply in that it made a bang, not that it also released from one end like a cannon. I presume this is so that the concussion is less damaging to the surroundings, as opposed to a typical salute that would take chunks out of a stage. Perhaps the larger grain Al has a purpose other than being cheaper than dark flake, it likely needs to be comparatively slow to not destroy the casing. I have seen the steel flash pots, but I had no idea there was a single use paper equivalent.
bikemaster Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 ???Wow I never saw that before. I use a lot of next Fx product and I always work with the big steel concussion motar and the binary mixture. They say that It is 1/3 of the power of a full (not taped) concussion (1oz). It will be nice for indoor show but for outdoor show it will be way to weak. If you want to know what is the mixture, I am pready sure you can find the msds. But I am almost sure that they use the standart 7/3 that we all know. All the business have own repeice, but flash powder is flash powder.
Mumbles Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 The binary concussion powder is formulated to be able to be measured by mixing equal volumes instead of needing to use weights. There is a member here that can shed more light on this matter if he feels like it.
WonderBoy Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 The description of that product makes me think of a device where BP propels fine aluminum into the air, where it ignites. Creating a bright flash and thump. There were some posts on rec.pyro a little while back, but I can't locate them now.
