madmandotcom Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 my mu,m has decided to go rather safety conscious regarding rockets and wants confirmation that if they do cato, they are unlikely to make anything larger than a foot wide blacke mark on the ground and as i will be launching these on a briquette, it will be completely unnoticeable and as i will be at the complete opposite side of the back yard, the blast is not going to get me, the specifications are as follows:Proppelant:kno3/sugarHeight:6cm with one cm end caps either endWidth:3/4 inchExhaust hole:5mlbody:pvc
erid Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I can't tell you about the black mark, but never use PVC. If it does CATO, the PVC will shatter and send sharp shrapnel everywhere, possibly hurting anyone near it. Always use cardboard or paper tubes, so if it does CATO there's no shrapnel.
dagabu Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Erid has my second, NO PVC!!! I have posted the picture of my scar from a test motor that I fired a long time ago that CATO's and cut me. I was at least 50' away but didn't seem to slow down the shrapnel very much. I have been within 25' of CATO's since then (not my idea) and have not been hurt by them.
