dagabu Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I followed the Passfire method for making falling leaves and the shells and was very successful with them. I made a second batch that is drying right now so if anyone is at all interested in how they are done, post a response here and I will walk you through the method. These are so easy that you can even use your favorite star comp with them!
OneEyeCharlie Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Did you use your "coffee filter" rolls to make that last batch?
dagabu Posted December 29, 2010 Author Posted December 29, 2010 I DID!! Boy oh boy they are slick!! I have also used the round coffee filters, the paper is the same but it has to be flattened and dried before cutting to size.
TrueBluePyro Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I have just loaded a shell with them, need to make a few kilos of lift now.Got a video Dave?
dagabu Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) Double post! Edited December 30, 2010 by dagabu
dagabu Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 TBP!!! Good to hear from you! I do have video. There are three falling leaves rockets and a star to report (ergo, FAIL on four crossettes). http://www.youtube.com/user/spamento?feature=mhum
dagabu Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 I just used up all of my crappy Barium Sulfate (BaSO4) green comp (ugly stuff) and will be shooting them NYE and will be mixing some Barium Nitrate Green today. I will see if I can take some video of the process and post it here if you would like.
Algenco Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 so I take it you don't like the Barium sulfate?
Ralph Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 so I take it you don't like the Barium sulfate? barium sulfate on its own is kinda crappy I have been playing with greens and it seems adding some to a barium nitrate oxidized metal fueled star improves the green but on its own its difficult to get it to react makes the star harder to light and isnt all that cooperative
Algenco Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Ralph,I was just thinking about that, mixing sulfate/nitrate.I have 10lb of Barium Nitrate, need to use it somehow
dagabu Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 so I take it you don't like the Barium sulfate? Don't get me wrong, it makes an excellent washed out-almost white-what the heck-color-was-that green that we all love so much. Nor exactly a Christmas color if you know what I mean. The barium Nitrate is supposed to be a much better green but a lot harder to light like Ralph says. I guess we will find out in about 30 minutes. They should be dry by night time and they load into the shell very easily.
Ralph Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Ralph,I was just thinking about that, mixing sulfate/nitrate.I have 10lb of Barium Nitrate, need to use it somehow oh ill find you a use for barium nitrate PM a few of the chems you have that you use for coloration and Ill give you a sexy green
Algenco Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I've made green stars with Barium nitrate, they are very green and bright. No problems lighting with Fencepost prime
Juiceh Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) I made a second batch that is drying right now so if anyone is at all interested in how they are done, post a response here and I will walk you through the method.Sir, I would like this walk through please! Also, how long are the pieces of falling leaves fuses in the shell? Edited December 30, 2010 by Juiceh
dagabu Posted December 31, 2010 Author Posted December 31, 2010 Juiceh, I believe that I need to make a correction in your thoughts. The falling leaves you are speaking of are fuse that look a lot like visco where the falling leaves I am speaking of are 100% hand made and are designed to float down like actual leaves, fluttering.
Juiceh Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Ahh yes, I was thinking of the falling leaves fuses. Someone who commented on your youtube video looks like they thought the same thing. I'd still love a tutorial on making these though!!
TrueBluePyro Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I might make some more later and I'll get some photos if I can. They look very nice and I also used a green haha. A metal barium nitrate green, very bright and green

Shoot me a PM and remind me please, I will see if I cant pull the pictures together tonight and start the tutorial.
