Failing with potassium perchlorate as rocket propellant.

I'm sorry, but this Guy is going to get hurt.

Who is going to get hurt? And why?

NightmareNeighbor, who else? Bystanders, property damage too perhaps.

Mixing perc with who knows what, to see what it will do.

Making rocket fuel is easy if you get the right chemicals.

Did you notice the dates on those posts? NightmareNeighbor has not logged in since the last post in this thread, in January of 2011. Probably got bored of pyrotechnics, since it requires more work and testing than one can do in a few days to get the results you are after. Hopefully he (assuming there) gave up and didn't get hurt ramming the comps that were mentioned.

... Bystanders, property damage too perhaps...

Perhaps NN's choice of names was appropriate. Nevertheless, he seems to be a well-meaning fellow and share Nater's expression of wishing him a safe future.

My two cents. I suggest anyone looking to use KClO4 in a propellant mix explore dextrin or red gum as fuel. Both oxidize energetically with K-perch and produce lots of gaseous products.

I made an 18mm one with KClO3 and dextrin (I know, bad idea). Had a stable burn for the first few seconds, then blew up like an m-80. I will probably try KClO4 if I try something like that again.

My 2 cents...

If you want to make a rocket stick to known formulas that work, bp, APCP, whistle, sugar fuel, etc.

Actually if this is the first time you are making rockets stick to BP and nothing more.

There's enough that could go wrong with rockets, before chemical composition even comes into play. Different comps have different pressure curves, and nozzle size, core geometry, casing thickness already presents enough variable that you don't want to complicate things further by trying different formulas.

If you want a rocket in the air by new year eve, then stick to using bp, at least you can hand ram it with reasonable safety. In fact you should be working on making bp that works, because too slow of a bp will also make the rocket under perform. Nothing is worse than a header nose diving and starting a fire!

Save the perc for stars or other more worthy composition. They are expensive enough already.

These guys scare me, I just read this thread. The thread starter is probably in heaven, poor bugger. Bfitzy... don't join him mate.

This thread is just plain scary... use BP like all the pro's do, there is a reason why it's the most common.
