Cinnamic acid white smoke

hi,

i've just tried this "low toxicity" smoke mixture which is based on one privided in the patent literature, admittedly i did not include 5% nitrocellulose as binder (which i guess will contribute to help burning), but it performed so badly (very hard to ignite, non sustained burning) basically it was crap.

the military use cinnamic acid in some of their traing smokes (due to the "lower" toxicity)

anyone have any suggestions ? i am trying to find something better than colophony

 

cinnamic acid 50

sucrose 13

potassium chlorate 30

sodium bicarbonate 7

 

i guess i will have to put some nc in there to see if it improves things.

the patent says it produces medium to good volume smoke ????
