angelluis Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 (edited) I was in the newbie section of this site and was reading a post titled star cores, I myself have had poor results using different types of star cores to roll stars. While looking through it there it was a thread from dagabu saying that he has used this technique with very good results. I have this star roller that i made and want to break it in so here it goes : I took my D1 gold glitter comp added some 70/30 water/alchohol made that into a golf sized ball comp and run it through the 12 mesh kitchen strainer .As you run it through the strainer let it fall into the star roller as it rolls let them roll for a couple of minutes to harden up a bit. After they have been rolling for a couple of minutes now you can sprits them very lightly with 70/30 water alchohol a mister is good for this purpose. Now you can start to add a little comp (I used dry comp) let it roll for a couple of minutes then add some water repeat the process !Finally when you have reached the size you are looking for you can screen out the smaller ones and keep rolling those to get the size you want.It sounds really easy and it is I really couldnt beleive it but this is a perfect way to roll stars where no lead core is needed you can make a D1 core and add red star comp so many possibilities. cores that have came out of the kitchen strainer after being rolled for a few minutes and some comp added. These are about 2 to 4 milimeters in diameter. cores that have been rolled for about an hour, these are between 6 to 10 milimeters in diameter. As you can see with some practice and determination anyone can master this technique. Imagine the possibilites! Edited November 11, 2010 by angelluis

These are some D1 stars they are 3/8" to 7/16" for a 4" shell These are some 1/4" stars for a 2.5 " shell These arebsome cores 1/8 " to to 3/16" Edited November 13, 2010 by angelluis
Updup Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 (edited) D1 ,these are different sized cores. These are 1/8" to 3/16" cores/These are some that are ready for priming they are 3?8" to 7/16" for some 4" shells.and last but not least these are 1/4" in size for some 2.5" shells. They are still over sized. Do you just use a drill and bucket for your roller? I saw an interesting video today of a chinese factory that basicly took two bowls with wide rims, put the wet stars and some star comp in one of them, then turned the other one upside down and put it on top of the one with that stars, then shook them to coat and roll the stars... It seemed like an interesting method, and the sars came out looking al about the sae size, and very smooth. Edited November 13, 2010 by Updup

I just resized all my pics, and I got my info from youtube there is a guy called sparklitsky on youtube. There it will tell you how to build it yes it is a drill that drives it. Everything came out to about $3 I had everything else you need to find the bearing ,I just went to play it again sports and bought a replacement bearing that was 7/8"( to drive the bucket ) and all the wood and screws and 2X4 I had . Check out his tutorial its great very informitive and overall easy to build I will never pump another star unless called for! Let me know if you find it?
