Oubadah Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Disillusioned by consumer fireworks, I've been making some very basic black powder based 'bangers' myself. I would usually recycle ex-consumer FW cardboard tubes for casing, but I've just about run out. So I've been experimenting with plastic tubing. I'm not keen on the plastic due to the risk of shrapnel, but I detonate them submerged in earth to overcome this risk. Anyway, my real concern is static electricity. Is there any risk of the black powder igniting while I'm wadding up the ends and completeing the device?
Mumbles Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 There is always some risk, but for the most part you should be fine. BP is able to be set off by spark, but I've never heard of static generating enough energy to do it. That being said, some anti-static spray is a cheap insurance policy. This is verging on destructive devices. If you have to go through the trouble of burying them, you really don't need to be making them in the first place. If nothing else it's still leaving sharp pieces of plastic in the soil which will eventually be unearthed, and aren't very biodegradable. You should give rolling your own tubes a try if you're that desperate.
