Algenco Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) I have sucumed to the temptations of the dark side (I'm weak) I ordered NEPT tubes, they are 30 3/16" in lengthFor the 1 lb tubes what length is most commonly used? Shouls I cut each into 4-7.5" or 3 =-10"? I will be stcking with BP coreburners (yea right, wonder how long that will last) Edited October 15, 2010 by Algenco
dagabu Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I tend to stay on the short side (nothing from you UpDUp ) so i would go with the 7.5" tubes and use the left overs for bottom shots and the like. BP tooling:-Core burning BP -Nozzless BP-Hybrid nozzleless -Color change BP you will have plenty to chose from before you NEED other tooling but you will buy a UT set at some point when you decide to do whistle.
Algenco Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 That's my thinking too, 7.5" is plenty A friend is making a UT set for me I pay for materials DanT sent me a tut that he did for making simple tools at home.Since I have lots of time and very little $$$ I've made 3 different length spindles this week Tubes will be here Monday, Ill be ready
dagabu Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I have been working with someone else on affordable tubes that will be close to NEPT tubes in quality, when we get a good sample and start production, you will be able to launch rockets every day!
OneEyeCharlie Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I have been working with someone else on affordable tubes that will be close to NEPT tubes in quality You be sure to let me know when you get that a rolling
dagabu Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 We will post to both Passfire and the Agora (here) when we have them ready to go. It has been almost a year since we started the process and after a few samples, we are well on our way to get high quality tubes.
Algenco Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 I've been following the progress.Let me be the first volunteer to test them
KruseMissile Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 steve k? I'm really interested because I am tired of rolling my own tubes. Thanks Dave
TSO Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Colour me convoluted too. Here I was thinking I'd have to wait for Skylighter to do a 50% off sale again this December.

dagabu Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Colour me convoluted too. Here I was thinking I'd have to wait for Skylighter to do a 50% off sale again this December. DO'H! Harry does not sell good tubes. you have to get them from Jim at Hobbyhorse.
Algenco Posted October 16, 2010 Author Posted October 16, 2010 DO'H! Harry does not sell good tubes. you have to get them from Jim at Hobbyhorse. yep, I heard quite a bit about Harry's "soft tubes"pay the extra and get the best, it will be cheaper in the long run
TSO Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 So much for the 50% sale for tubes...oh well. I do already have HobbyHorse saved in favorites. I haven't had any issues yet with any of the tubes from Harry, but I also haven't ventured from BP into the more exotic fuels...need a press first.I've noticed a very annoying aspect of this hobby...every time you buy a new tool or chem...it leads you to buy another....for instance....buy a press...get new tooling...get new tooling...get new chems....aighhh!!!
Ralph Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 When you do start supplying tubes will you be doing international orders ?
dagabu Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Sure, they are only paper, nothing to prohibit their sale over seas.
Ralph Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 YEAH the spirals are going well for me but parallel will be nice might be able to push it that little bit further
