BJV Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Hi All, Below are a few photo of a Saturn shell that Iput together this morning. I can't say this is atutorial, it's more for getting some input. I usenewspaper hemi's I am not of fan of plastic or strawboardI feel that they interfere with the symmetry of the brake. The bursting charge is BP on rice hulls 5 to 1, with awhistle booster. The shell will have 17 wraps of heavy gum tapewhen complete.Have I left anything out? I will not be able to shoot it untilthe fire restriction are lifted.Thanks,BJVhttp://barry.dcwisp.net/Saturn1.jpghttp://barry.dcwisp.net/Saturn2.jpghttp://barry.dcwisp.net/Saturn3.jpghttp://barry.dcwisp.net/Saturn4.jpghttp://barry.dcwisp.net/Saturn5.jpghttp://barry.dcwisp.net/Saturn6.jpg

BJV Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 (edited) thanks for the pics did you hot glue the ring stars in (kind of looks like it and I dont know if they need to be secured or not) Hi Ralph, Yes I did hot glue the ring stars in place. I have had good luck with my plain ring shell this way. I don't really see them going any where as tight as every the is pack in this shell, I going to build several moreand will try some not glued in.BJV Edited September 24, 2010 by BJV
NightHawkInLight Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 That looks very good. I absolutely love your hemis. They're very clean and nice and thin, which I think is a huge benefit. Thin hemis means that the majority of the wall of the shell is made up of pasting, which has no seam to provide a weak spot.
davis050594 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Would you mind showing how you make your hemis? Do you use wheat paste? What do you use as a former? It looks great, can't wait for video!
TrueBluePyro Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 ^I second the comment above. How do you get them so.. perfect?
