Givat Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Name of composition: Givat primeComposition Type: PrimeCreator: GivatColor/Effect: Non chlorate stars primeThe Composition: (by weight)Sulfur - 1MgAl (300 mash) - 4KNO3 - 6BP (ball milled 6H) - 11+5% dextrine Any Precautions/Incompatabilities: NOT for chlorate starsPrecedure/Preparation:This prime is based on a MgAl flash mixed 50% with BP. I'm using it for all my non chlorate stars and you don't need any "step prime" or something like that. I'm rolling my stars with my Givar prime and a small layer of pure BP. this prime works for "Bleser Mg#7 red", "bleser white strobe" and "hardt green star". Im haven't found any star this prime can't light. I invented this prime as a cheap prime. MgAl is the cheapest metal I could find for a hot prime and all the other chems are basic chems for black powder. regards,Givat.
NightHawkInLight Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Cool. I'll have to give it a try.
ghost808 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 What happens if you were to use this with chlorate stars?
Ralph Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 not really safe if you use it on chlorate stars because chlorate and sulfur are rather sensitive together that being said there is no friction between the two layers as they dont move so Im not sure its quite that terrible what i would be more concerned about is not priming AP stars with this because they would certainly stop working
Algenco Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 and you don't need any "step prime" or something like that. I'm rolling my stars with my Givar prime and a small layer of pure BP sounds good, but that is "step priming", I bet it would work without the extra BP coat
50AE Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Simple BP is enough for most chlorate based stars. I only prime chlorate metal streamers with a MgAl based prime as first layer, to be sure.
