dagabu
So you had the ACME thread welded on? or was it turned from solid bar stock? No, just solder, it has about 10,000 lbs of shear when sweated. The spindle itself is the ACME thread turned down to the spindle. The divergence was made from the ACME rod and the nut after they were sweated together then turned together. It turned just like half-hard brass, ships flying all over and stinging any exposed skin. That spindle was used to make about 100 nozzleless BP 1# rockets in early 2013. Edited June 26, 2014 by dagabu
ddewees
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't this function exactly like Ben Smith's motor removal tool? Except more rugged? They both essentially push the motor off the spindle with no rotation.
dagabu
Nope, with Bens set, you have to remove the spindle from the base and then install the washer then install the base again and install the screw, then turn it to pop off the motor. With mine, you turn the nuts, done... Loose, mislocate, misplace the hex wrench, round the end of the hex, round the threads of the screw or the tapped threads, cross thread or have dirt, filings, comp or nozzle mix in the threads and its game over. ACME threads will outlive any standard screw thread by millenia.
schroedinger
I'm sjre they will last a lot longer then those which ben use, but the principlemhow they work should be the same
ddewees
ACME threads will outlive any standard screw thread by millenia.Thousands of years? That's quite a claim... What's with the bold text? Emphasis added?
dagabu
Old eyes and tablets, bold looks better to me. Millenia was indeed an overemphasis used to make a point. Yes the principal is the same but the execution is simpler. Dont get me wrong, Ben and I are friends, great tooling and I send everyone who asks about tooling to him. I just like my ejector better. nater
Any thougts to modify Ben's spindles to your method with ACME thread?
dagabu
Any thougts to modify Ben's spindles to your method with ACME thread? Sadly, no. The entire spindle (not the divergence) is turned from the ACME thread then soldered to the base nut. The "jam nut" is then turned to form the divergence.
