taiwanluthiers Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Ebony is quite dense (it sinks in water) so an average guitar bridge blank weights about 50-60 grams... so would take about 10 of them to yield 50 grams of ebony charcoal, at a cost of about 30 dollars for the whole lot.. (assuming 10 bridge blanks were burned in order to make ebony charcoal). I was thinking the performance may be similar to persimmon because both woods are similar (they are in the same genus). I might try this once I accumulated enough scraps...
