Fly:whistle: Fly, 30g is good. You should try making your own. Making your own BP gives you a good sense of satisfaction and a solid foundation when making your own fireworks.

I've never bought Goex...but do you have 2F A or 2F g ?? That can make a difference, also, is it a canister shell or a ball??For a 4" shell you should be OK with 1/10 weight as Cookieman suggested, It will likely be a bit overlifted, but you can always adjust next time.
Peret Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I would suggest making some test shots using a softball, especially if you're contemplating using home made powder. After all, this is a 3/4 pound shell that must represent hours of work, so an extra hour for experiment would seem like time well spent. If it just flops out of the tube and rolls on the ground between your feet, you'll be glad it's a softball and not a fizzing fuse.

Is 1/10th the weight of the item a good measure for lift charges? Also how far are you expecting a 4" shell to go with 1/10th the weight as lift?

Also how far are you expecting a 4" shell to go with 1/10th the weight as lift? 1/10 is the general rule for lift on a shell. You can make adjustments depending how strong your BP is 1/12. Generally the the altitude of the shell is determined by the size + 100 feet. 4" ball shell 4" + 100ft= 500ft.
Mumbles Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 With bigger shells, over a pound or so, you can generally use 1/16th.
